June saw the first iteration of MUD’s Composer-In-Residence for working-class composers program, in partnership with Soundstream and City of Norwood Payneham St Peters, featuring Narrm/Melbourne-based composer Joseph Franklin. A community workshop with Joseph and cellist David Moran unfolded their collaborative process, followed by an afternoon group improvisation with Joseph (contrabass guitar), David, Gabriella Smart (Electric Cristal), Tina Stefanou (voice) and the potent words of working-class poet and activist Tadhg Porter-Cameron.

Joseph also performed solo pieces from his recent album release, a thousand tiny mutinies, out through Nice Music label.

Inarma Choir workshops -

Building on an ongoing relationship with Titjikala Community, including a series of workshops in Ross River NT during April, July will see Soundstream join close family Elders from Ernabella for a music workshop in Alice Springs. These women share cultural roots and will sing gospel and original songs in the Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara languages, sharing knowledge with their sisters from Inarma Choir.
